What a clever idea! DIY firefly jars, sans fireflies.

I’m in love with this idea… and such a cool alternative to patio lights.  All you have to do is gather a few mason jars, flick some glow-in-the-dark paint in the jars, and let them sit in the sun to charge during the day. By the time your dinner party rolls around you’ll have firefly lanterns. I think it would be cute to do this same thing with mini jars, and string them up somehow… hmmm. Here’s a link to some non-toxic glow-in-the-dark paint, to make this project extra eco-friendly…  Via Re-Nest

  1. What an awesome idea! I love this!!

  2. This is one of the coolest things that I have ever seen. We always have empty jars lying around and never have anything to do with them and thanks to you, we do now!

  3. Mmmmmm… Love the idea. However, it is NOT that easy to “flick” paint in a jar. *sigh*

  4. Yeah, I was thinking the same about flicking the paint… but I think I’ll still give it a shot! It looks like there are several colors of paint, is that right?

I shot like this for a photo shoot. but it cannot work long term because the glow stick just drips to the bottom.

  6. flick the paint on the outside of the jar…

  7. Dip your brush into the paint and put it inside the mason jar and flick it against one side while another person slowly rotates it.

  8. you could always use a toothbrush to flick the paint inside .

  9. you could use baby jars and twine for the “string them up” idea. Never know what to do with those

  10. just put the brush in the jar and spin it by rolling it inbetween your hands back and forth

  11. Great idea. I love it!

    =)
